Climbing cost includes
All transfers
When you arrive in Tanzania, our team will be waiting to collect you from Kilimanjaro International Airport. We handle all ground transfers throughout your trip — hotel to gate, camp to camp, and back to the airport at the end.
Hotel before and after the hike
The night before your climb you'll rest at our partner hotel in Arusha — a warm bed, a good meal, and time to settle in before the adventure begins. A recovery night in the same hotel is included after your descent.
Camping equipment
HAO Expedition & Safari equips every climber with quality mountain tents, sleeping mats, dining tents, and camp kitchen setups. Our gear is regularly inspected and maintained so you can focus entirely on the climb.
Meals on the hike
At HAO Expedition & Safari we understand that fuelling well is part of summit success. Three hot meals a day are prepared by our mountain cooks throughout the climb — hearty breakfasts, packed lunches, and warm evening dinners at camp.
Guide and porters
On your adventure you'll be led by a certified senior guide and supported by an experienced porter team. Our staff-to-client ratios are deliberately generous — you'll never feel rushed or unattended on the mountain.
Medical check-ups & first aid
Every morning and evening our guides conduct health checks — pulse oximeter readings, altitude sickness assessments, and hydration monitoring. We carry a fully loaded first aid kit and supplemental oxygen on every expedition.
Park fees
HAO Expedition & Safari trips are fully inclusive of all Kilimanjaro National Park fees, rescue fees, and conservation levies. There are no hidden costs — the price you see covers everything payable to the park authority.
Climbing cost excludes
International flights
You will be responsible for covering your own international airfare. Feel free to contact our travel advisors — we're happy to recommend airlines operating flights into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and connecting routes.
Tips for the climbing crew
Tipping is a well-established practice in mountain hiking worldwide. While never mandatory at HAO Expedition & Safari, our clients are warmly encouraged to tip their mountain crew as a gesture of gratitude for exceptional service.
Tanzania visa
Most nationalities obtain a single-entry 90-day visa on arrival or online for $50 USD. US nationals are required to pay $100 for a multi-entry visa. Contact our travel advisors to learn more about Tanzania visa requirements.
Personal gear & rentals
If you intend to rent gear from home, you can provide us with your list through your HAO portal account and we'll have everything prepared before you arrive. See the full gear list below for what you'll need on the mountain.
Single supplement
Our packages are priced on a shared-room basis. If you are travelling solo and prefer a private room at our partner hotel in Arusha, a single supplement fee applies. Contact our team at HAO Expedition & Safari for the current rate.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance is not included. All participants must hold a policy covering trekking to 6,000m and helicopter evacuation. Requirements vary by country — contact your insurer to confirm coverage before booking.
Lunch & dinner at the hotel
Hotel accommodation is included on a bed & breakfast basis. Lunch and dinner at our hotel restaurant in Arusha are payable separately — or you're welcome to dine anywhere in town.
Portable toilet
Portable toilets are not included in the package to keep costs down. Public facilities are available at all camps. For those who prefer extra comfort, rental is available on request — not available on the Marangu route due to park regulations.
Personal gear checklist
The following items are not included in the package price. You may bring your own or rent from us before departure — just let us know through your HAO portal account and we'll have everything ready when you arrive in Arusha.
